Removing Grade Columns
print icon

Note: Once a grade column has been removed any grades posted to that grade column will be lost and cannot be restored.

1. Navigate to the Gradebook > Manage Grades

2. Find the grade column you want to remove. If it is associated with an item the link will need to be severed before you can delete the column. To tell if a grade column is associated with an item check the Association column. In the screenshot below the grade column is associated with an assignment. If the grade column isn't associated to an item skip ahead to step 4.

Table row with checkbox, "Week 1 Assignment" text, and highlighted "Assignments" column header.

3. Sever the link between the grade column and the item. To sever the link you will need to locate the item. Note: The item and the grade column don't need to have the same name in the My Courses system. To check if an item is associated with the column you want to delete go to the edit assignment page, click the In Grade Book drop-down and click Edit or Link to Existing.

In the pop-up if the link to existing shows the grade column that correlates to the grade column you want to remove then this is the correct item to sever the connection.

Click Cancel and go back to the In Grade Book Drop-down. This time click the Not in Grade Book option.

A digital grading interface with a highlighted option "Not in Grade Book."

This will sever the connection between the item and the grade column. Click Save and close.

4. Navigate back to the Manage Grades page. Now that the link is severed the grade column line should look like this -

A table row with a checkbox, "Week 1 Assignment" label, and numeric value "15".

At the top of the page click More Actions > Delete

Interface with dropdown menu showing options, including a highlighted "Delete" button.

Now select the item and click delete.

Note: you can delete the multiple grade items at the same time.

Note: Once a grade column has been removed any grades posted to that grade column will be lost and cannot be restored.
